The Federal High Court in Abuja will on Thursday hear the bail application filed by Senator Ali Ndume, who was on Monday remanded in Kuje Correctional Facility for failing to produce Abdulrasheed Maina in court.

The judge also on Monday asked Ndume to produce Maina or pay the sum of N500m bail bond to the Federation Account or his property will be forfeited to the government.

Ndume’s lawyer, Marcel Oru, on Tuesday filed an appeal against the remand order at the Court of Appeal, along with an application for the bail of the defendant filed before Justice Abang.

Maina, former head of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, was accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission of  laundering about N2bn through proxies. He jumped bail and became unavailable when the court ordered his arrest on the 18th of November. Ndume stood as surety for him.
