The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management Board (LITFCMB) has condemned the use of its facility for producing counterfeit goods and engaging in other illegal activities, warning that offenders will face the full weight of the law.

The Board’s position follows the recent arrest of two persons linked to the illegal revalidation of expired drinks and the production of counterfeit consumable products within the complex.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of LITFCMB, Veronica Safiya Ndanusa, said investigations had commenced to establish the facts surrounding the incident and identify measures to prevent a recurrence.

Ndanusa stressed that the complex was established to support legitimate commercial activities and promote ethical business practices, not to facilitate the production or distribution of fake and substandard products.

“As a body rooted in the principles of ethical business practices, transparency and genuine trade, we strongly condemn any activity that threatens public safety or brings the reputation of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management Board into disrepute,” she said.

She warned that individuals and businesses found engaging in activities that endanger public health or undermine the integrity of local manufacturing would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The LITFCMB chief executive commended the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for its enforcement operation, assuring the public that the Board would strengthen collaboration with relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies to rid the complex of illegal activities.

She also urged traders and business operators within the facility to comply with established standards, emphasising that the pursuit of profit must not compromise consumers’ health and safety.

Ndanusa reiterated the Board’s commitment to safeguarding the reputation of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex as a major commercial hub, assuring legitimate businesses of continued support.

She maintained that the Board would sustain its zero-tolerance stance against activities capable of eroding public confidence in locally manufactured products and exposing consumers to potentially harmful goods.
