Nigerian influencer and businesswoman, Simi Daps, has called out a Tanzanian fashion designer for allegedly sharing a video of her wedding dress and presenting it as the designer’s work.
The controversy began after Tanzanian fashion pages, @abundance_clothingtz and @sharizy_designer, posted a video showing Simi Daps wearing the wedding gown.
In the post, the pages praised her appearance while promoting the dress and directing prospective customers to Abundance Clothing.
The caption read: “The confidence, the presence, the way she moves, everything about her says this is her moment. The dress shines, but Queen shines even brighter.”
The post also credited the outfit to Abundance Clothing and included a Tanzanian phone number for enquiries.
However, Simi Daps challenged the claim in the comment section, stating that she did not obtain the dress from the fashion brand.
She wrote: “Hello, this is me in this post and I didn’t get it from you. Delete my video!”
Her comment triggered further reactions from social media users, some of whom identified Nigerian designer Prudent Gabriel Okopi as the person behind the wedding dress.
One commenter wrote: “My boss @prudent_gabriel made this dress not you…!!!”
A jewellery brand also weighed in, stating: “@prudent_gabriel made this.”
Several other commenters similarly accused the Tanzanian fashion pages of using the video to promote their business despite not being responsible for the outfit.
The development has generated reactions online, with many users backing Simi Daps’ position and attributing the creation of her wedding dress to Prudent Gabriel Okopi.
The Tanzanian fashion pages had yet to publicly respond to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
