365Daily – A 60-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the explosion of a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) within the Bayelsa State secretariat complex on Wednesday morning.
The police spokesperson in Bayelsa State, Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday evening, said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Iyamah Edebor, immediately led the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit, Special Drone Unit, and other Tactical Teams to the scene.
According to him, the EOD unit’s operatives contained the situation on arrival at the scene, and after a detailed search, identified one unexploded IED which was “rendered safe.”
The spokesman said no lives were lost, and no property was destroyed in the explosion.
“One Pentecost Elijah, M, 60-year-old from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw LGA, Bayelsa State, was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident.
“He is currently undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, and upon conclusion, the suspect will be charged in court,” he said.
