The Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BSEMA, has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and well-being of internally displaced persons, IDPs, across the state.
Speaking at the distribution of food and non-food items to IDPs, held at BSEMA headquarters, Monday, in Makurdi, Executive Secretary of the Agency, James Iorpuu, highlighted the agency’s efforts to enhance emergency response and support systems for IDPs.
Benue SEMA, according to Iorpuu, has equally achieved several milestones in recent months, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, BSUTH, to provide healthcare services to IDPs.
He said the agency is also finalizing MoUs with the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company, BDIC and the Benue State Bureau of Homeland Security to equip Benue SEMA with cutting-edge technology.
Iorpuu also revealed that Benue SEMA has relocated IDPs to the newly established transit camp at Mbayongo, adding that this has improved the living condition and safety of the IDPs.
He further announced that the agency has also distributed relief materials to communities affected by the recent flood in Makurdi Local Government Area, acknowledging that its efforts are made possible through the support of Governor Hyacinth Alia and partners such as IOM and UNHCR.
Iorpuu assured that the agency would always remain committed to restoring dignity, fostering resilience, and building lasting solutions for IDPs in Benue State.
