Sokoto State Government has expressed concern over the emergence of another criminal group in the state called LAKURAWAS.
State Deputy Governor Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir made this feeling known while receiving participants of course 33 of the National Defence College, Abuja who are on study tour in the state
Statement by the Director Press to the Deputy Governor, Garba Muhammad further highlights that Alhaji Idris Gobir said the group is known to be a faith-based idealist.
He said an assessment carried out indicated that the group possesses sophisticated weapons and their criminal activities were observed in about five local governments areas in the state.
According to him, the sad development was happening at the time when the state was being faced by banditry activities.
The deputy governor however said as the threat was expanding, the security authorities were working assiduously to address the emerging threat.
Alhaji Idris Gobir further said the state government has been working closely with federal security agencies to address numerous security threats to lives and properties of the people of the state.
He also enumerated various efforts being made by government to confront security challenges.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Air Vice Marshal Titus Zuwahu Dauda said the college was established in 1992 as the highest military education institution in the country.
He said the college was dedicated in the selection of officers from military, police and strategic Agencies to prepare them for strategic responsibilities.
According to him, the college has so far graduated 2,982 participants and among them were many from 30 African and Asian countries.
Air vice Marshall Titus Dauda said at the the end of the tour, the team would make oral presentation and written report on their study tour to the state.
