365Daily – The Federal High Court in Abuja has summoned the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, over an alleged contempt of order relating to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu is facing a seven-count charge bordering on treasonable felony.
The notice of summons was contained in a judicial process dated October 24, 2024, issued by the registrar of the court. It asked the DG to appear and show why he should not be committed to prison for alleged contempt of court.
The DSS, the court noted, had not complied with the order of court directing it to permit a three-day weekly visitation for Kanu’s lawyers at the DSS facility in Abuja to prepare for his defence.
It further noted that on October 22, in disregard for the orders of Justice Binta Nyako, Kanu’s lawyers led by Aloy Ejimakor Esq were turned back by operatives on the instruction of the DG.
The summon directed the DSS DG to “take further notice that you are hereby required to attend the court on the first mentioned day to show cause why an order for your committal should not be made.”
On September 24, the IPOB leader asked the presiding judge of a Federal High Court, Justice Binta Nyako, to recuse herself from the matter.
