Israeli will work with Starmer and his new government to return the abductees to their homes, create a better future for the region

Sir Keir Starmer of the Labour Party has won the UK general election to emerge as the new prime minister after defeating the incumbent Rishi Sunak of the Conservative with landslide margin of 266 having polled 410 votes against the Conservative which scored 144.
Delivering a speech after the poll, Sunak has conceded defeat and congratulated Starmer as other world leaders have started to convey their congratulatory messages to the new UK Prime Minister.
In a similar development, some high-profile Conservatives have also lost their seats, including Defence Secretary Grant Shapps, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Penny Mordaunt
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage becomes an MP for the first time, and the party’s Richard Tice and Lee Anderson also win
Ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn wins Islington North as an independent, and Labour’s Jon Ashworth loses to an independent
Green Party’s Carla Denyer wins Bristol Central from Labour, while Scottish First Minister John Swinney says it’s been a “very, very difficult and damaging” night for the SNP
On his part, Israeli President Isaac Herzog has sent his congratulations to Keir Starmer on his success in the general election.
In a statement posted on X, external, Herzog says Israeli will work with Starmer and his new government to “return the abductees to their homes, create a better future for the region, and continue and strengthen the close friendship between Israel and Great Britain”,
He also expressed his gratitude to Rishi Sunak for “his leadership and standing by the State of Israel, especially during this difficult time”.
