The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Sokoto State chapter, has reserved one week for the professional development of lawyers in Sokoto.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the state’s Attorney-General Nasiru Muhammad, pointed out to guest the Law Week is not a mere ceremonial event.
He said the ceremony ought to and is actually a week full of activities that offer opportunity to take stock of the outgoing legal year and their professional responsibility as individual legal practitioners and as an association.
“It provides a forum for lawyers to interact with their brothers on the judicial divide, identify where there are challenges and proffer solutions to matters affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice as a whole.
“It is also a week reserved for the professional development of lawyers through various paper presentations and robust discussions by seasoned personalities on matters affecting the legal profession and other fields that affect our lives as citizens. Invariably, the theme of this year’s Law week says it all”.
However, Barrister Nasir informed his learned colleagues, that the administration of the state governor, Ahmad Aliyu is fully committed to the independence of the judiciary in Sokoto state.
He further said this administration has not and will not in any manner interfere with the administrative and judicial functions of the judiciary.
He said the “Ministry of Justice is on course to achieving improvement from what we inherited. We very much count on the support of both the Bar and the Bench in attaining this noble objective.
“Before l conclude, let me single out for appreciation, their Lordships, the Honorable Chief Judge of Sokoto State and Hon. Justices of the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division, for the tremendous support given to the Bar.
