365Daily – The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, on Friday called on Nigerians to embrace nationalism and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing growing global tensions and their implications on the country.
Speaking with journalists after observing the two Rakat Eid prayers at the National Eid Ground in Abuja, Barau said unity and support for the current administration are critical to navigating the ripple effects of ongoing crises across the world. The prayers were led by Professor Illiasu Usman of the National Mosque.
He pointed to conflicts in the Middle East and parts of Europe as indicators of a troubled global landscape, warning that Nigeria cannot isolate itself from the consequences.
“What we need at this time is to continue supporting Mr President, all of us, and to continue praying for him so that he can succeed in his efforts to bring prosperity to our nation.
“We are facing global problems that are all over the world. We can see what is happening in the Middle East and other parts of the world.
“The world is full of challenges, and we are not an exception. So what we need at this period is to continue to support the President and pray for our nation, because we know, all of us who are working with him (Mr President) that he’s determined to bring prosperity to our nation,” he said.
The lawmaker also extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe, congratulating them on the successful completion of Ramadan. He prayed for unity in the country and wisdom for leaders.
“At the end of the prayers, I felicitated with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, other leaders and indeed all Ummah, on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.
“May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala help our country, unite our country, and help Mr President in his efforts to reform the country for the better and to bring prosperity to our nation,” he added.
In a related message, the Chief Imam, Illiasu Usman, urged leaders at all levels to intensify efforts against insecurity, stressing that meaningful development cannot take place in a violence-ridden environment.
He maintained that Nigeria has the capacity to tackle criminal elements and restore peace.
“Since genuine development cannot take place in any insecure or violence-riddled society, government at all levels in Nigeria should intensify more their wars against blood-thirsty criminals in our midst,” he said.
