Governor Umar Namadi has commended the peaceful and successful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Congress in Jigawa State, describing the exercise as orderly, transparent, and conducted entirely by consensus in line with the party’s constitutional provisions.
Speaking during the congress in Dutse, the governor expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for guiding the party through the process.
“We thank Almighty God for guiding us in managing the affairs of Jigawa State,” he said.
Governor Namadi explained that the congress process began at the ward level, progressed to the local government stage, and culminated at the state level—all conducted through consensus among party members.
“Today, we conducted three elections in Jigawa State: at the ward level, at the local government level, and today, by the grace of God, at the state level. All these elections were conducted based on consensus among APC members. They were conducted peacefully and concluded peacefully.”
The governor described the seamless exercise as a clear demonstration of unity within the APC in Jigawa State, saying that the absence of acrimony or complaints testifies to the maturity and unity among the party stakeholders.
“As the APC at the state level, we will continue to work with everyone. What happened today shows that the APC in Jigawa State is one united party, and everyone who attended is part of us.”
He expressed special appreciation to party elders and leaders across the state who participated in the congress, including the minister of state for education, serving and former members of the National and State Assemblies, and community and state-level stakeholders, as well as the teeming supporters of the APC.
Governor Namadi also thanked the national party delegation that conducted the election process in the state, commending them for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise.
Addressing the newly elected executives,Governor Namadi reminded them that their emergence through consensus signified the confidence reposed in them by party members.
“To the elected leaders, know that this is a trust you have accepted on behalf of the people of Jigawa State. Each of you took an oath here to be just and not show favouritism. Therefore, be fair to party members. Injustice is what brings division and conflict into party affairs.”
He emphasized that fairness and strict adherence to the party constitution are essential to sustaining unity, noting that injustice often breeds internal discord within political organizations.
In his remarks, the newly elected state party chairman, Ahmed Garba MK, expressed deep gratitude to the party and the governor for the opportunity to serve.
“We thank the party and His Excellency for entrusting us with this responsibility. We are deeply grateful, and we assure you that we will work tirelessly to secure the party’s success in all elections ahead,” he said.
He pledged, on behalf of all elected officials, to discharge their duties diligently and with excellence, ensuring that the party continues to dominate the political landscape in the state.
The Chairman noted that Jigawa State boasts one of the highest numbers of registered APC members in Nigeria, attributing this achievement to Governor Namadi’s inclusive leadership and grassroots mobilization efforts.
He further stated that since its formation in 2014, the APC has won every gubernatorial election in the state, which is a sign of the party’s longstanding popularity.
While reasserting party discipline, he issued a clear warning against dual party loyalty.
“Whoever holds two membership cards—claiming to belong to the APC and also to the ADC—must choose one. You either belong to the ADC or to the APC; you cannot belong to both. We know them, and we assure you that we will take firm action with the full authority of the party.”
