365Daily – The Minority Caucus Adhoc Committee of the House of Representatives has confirmed that newly passed tax laws were altered, validating concerns earlier raised on the floor of the House by a lawmaker, Abdusammad Dasuki.
The seven-member fact-finding committee, constituted by the minority caucus and chaired by Afam Ogene, disclosed the findings in its preliminary report on the alleged manipulation of tax legislation. The panel said its investigation established that the observations made by Dasuki were accurate.
According to the report, the committee uncovered alterations in key provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, one of the laws at the centre of the controversy. It noted that the discrepancies became evident during a comparison of documents associated with the Act.
The committee further revealed that three different versions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025, were in circulation, raising concerns about the integrity of the legislative process. It said the conflicting versions included the copy passed by the National Assembly, an earlier version published in the official gazette, and other documents obtained during the probe.
The report highlighted that several sections of the Act contained inconsistencies when compared with the version approved by lawmakers, describing the differences as “contentious.”
According to the committee, the discrepancies were clearly established through the Certified True Copies (CTCs) of the law released by the House of Representatives, which differed from other versions in public circulation.
The committee said its findings underscored the need for further scrutiny to determine how the alterations occurred and to safeguard the credibility of the legislative process.
