Tiv speaking women under the auspices of Tiv Women Association, Abuja Chapter, on Tuesday gathered in their numbers to pray for the victory of candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Dr. Obinna Simon and his running mate Mrs. Georgina Ngufan Jago.
The women under the leadership of their Queen Mother, Mrs. Charity Tyohile held a session of prayers at Apo for the candidates saying they are optimistic God has answered their prayers.
They also vowed to mobilize their husbands, children and their fellow women across other ethnic nationalities to vote for the party come February 21, 2026 in order to ensure a holistic victory for SDP.
Speaking to our correspondent, the SDP vice chairmanship candidate, Mrs. Georgina Ngufan Jago said she has come to interface with the Tiv women and seek their prayers.
“I have come to tell the Tiv women that this project is not mine, it is theirs, and the project is well-accepted by them. They will go out to reach out to the ones that are not here. They are going to serve as part of our coordinators and campaign agents around the 12 council wards of AMAC.
“The prayers they made is deep down from their minds, and they are serious about it; they are not pretending. They will go all-out to shake Abuja come February 21, 2026 for Obinna/Georgina to come in on the seat of AMAC”, she said.
On his part, the District Head of Tiv Community in Apo, Chief James Wegh said all the Tiv people resident in the area will vote SDP, because they have the number to make that possible.
According to him, “Politics is a game of number; if you take statistic of the residents of FCT, you will discover that Tiv people are highly populated, and whenever you find yourself among them, be rest assured of victory. Only Tiv people can ensure victory, because we have the number here in Abuja.
“Tiv people in Gwagwalada Area Council are more than Igbo, they are more than even the indigenes. Go to Dei Dei, they are more than any other tribe you can talk about.
“It was from this SDP that the late Reverend Father Moses Adasu became governor of Benue State in the early 90s. We the Tiv people are fully engaged in this party”, he assured.
Also speaking, coordinator for the vice chairmanship candidate, Mr. Patrick Anyumba said it is time for the people to exercise their franchise.
“I have been going everywhere telling people to vote for Obinna/Georgina, because these are people that will bring the changes we needed. It is time for us to redefine our image and tell our stories as human beings in FCT”.
On his part, the Garki Ward coordinator for Obinna Simon, Alhaji Yusuf Oshafu said his principal will win Garki ward in a landslide, because the ward has a lot of Igbo and Tiv people, and all of them are with Obinna/Georgina.
“Before 2pm of February 21, Dr. Obinna Simon would emerge the chairman of AMAC, Insha Allah. I was overwhelmed by the prayers of Tiv women.
“That prayer is right from their hearts and all of them were praying for Dr. Obinna Simon and Georgina Ngufan Jago that God, in His mercy, will make them victorious in the elections.
Oshafu further called on electorate to come out and vote for SDP, especially the Igbo and the Tiv people who he described as majority.
