The candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the February 21, 2026 FCT Council Elections, Dr. Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye has expressed confidence of winning the poll, saying 95 to 97 percent of the electorate would vote his party.
Speaking with our correspondent in Abuja on Thursday, MC Tagwaye said he has gone across all the electoral wards in AMAC almost 10 times to sell his candidature, and the people have given him their supports and are ready to vote for him.
According to him, “I have gone really far. Because there is no ward, I have not visited over ten times. All in the bid of consultation and to talk to the people, to engage with the grassroots. Because we believe the grassroots are the beacon of politics”.
Rating his acceptability by the AMAC electorate, he said, “I can tell you 95 to 97 percent are with us. And the acceptance is overwhelming”.
In the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver a free, fair and credible election, Dr. Obinna Simon said he trusts INEC would do the right thing, because the world is watching.
“Unlike other local government council elections in states, AMAC is peculiar, and not where anyone can do otherwise. This election is a litmus test of what will happen in 2027”, he said.
Responding to the question on whether the government of the day is performing, Tagwaye said “A lot is happening in AMAC that shouldn’t be, if there is leadership, but because there is no leadership, so many things are going on in the education sector, health sector, transport sector, name them. Nothing is right.
“I can assure you that 65 to 70 percent of residents in AMAC don’t even know the area council. That is how unpopular AMAC has become. Some of them feel AMAC is an agency of government, not an area council. People don’t even get to know what are the responsibilities of the AMAC chairman.
“But if I, Dr. Obinna Simon, MC Tagwaye, becomes the AMAC chairman, the entire world will know this is the chairman of AMAC. People who don’t know about AMAC will get to know about AMAC; the closest government to them is the area council, not federal government”, he boasted.
