A fire outbreak on Monday gutted an open recycling space and spread to nearby buildings along Pipeline Road, off Ekoro Road, Abule Egba, Lagos.
The Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident in a statement.
She said a distress call was received at about 1:08 p.m., reporting the incident at No. 15, Pipeline Road.
“Firefighting crews from the Agege and Abesan Fire Stations were immediately mobilised and deployed to the scene,” she said.
She said preliminary investigations showed the fire started in an open space used for local recycling activities operated by some individuals.
“The blaze later spread to a nearby residential bungalow and a mini church, causing damage to the affected structures,” Adeseye added.
She said one adult female suffered shock at the scene and was stabilised by emergency responders.
According to her, no fatalities were recorded during the incident.
Adeseye said firefighters eventually brought the fire under control, preventing its spread to adjoining properties.
She said investigations were ongoing to determine the exact cause of the outbreak.
The Controller-General reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to comply strictly with fire safety regulations. (NAN)
