An Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday sentenced a man, Sodiq Babatunde, to two years’ imprisonment for stealing N35 million.
Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe convicted Babatunde after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court sentenced the convict to two years’ imprisonment with an option of a N1 million fine and 100 hours’ community service.
Abike-Fadipe further directed Babatunde to make full restitution to the nominal complainant, Swerv Nigeria Ltd.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of one Apple MacBook Pro, one iPhone X and one Samsung A13 recovered from the convict to the Federal Government.
Earlier, EFCC counsel, Mr Muhammad Bashir, in his review of facts, tendered several documents to support the case against the convict.
The court admitted the documents in evidence.
The prosecution submitted that the convict, sometime in July, dishonestly took and converted to his own use the sum of N35 million belonging to Swerv Nigeria Ltd.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
