The Police Command in Delta says it has apprehended a robbery suspect in the state.
Spokesman for the command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Warri.
Edafe said that the suspect, who was a member of a five-man robbery syndicate, was arrested on Tuesday at Agbarho Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area.
He said that the 19-year-old suspect was arrested by the police operatives attached to the Agbarho division in synergy with the members of the Nigerian Vigilante Group.
Edafe explained that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Agbarho division, CSP Pius Eredei, received a report on the incident and immediately deployed a police team to apprehend the suspects.
“The DPO received a report that five armed men forcefully broke into a residence in Uvwiama New Layout, Agbarho Community, while the occupant was asleep.
“Two of the suspects allegedly entered the bedroom, while three others stood guard outside.
“The armed suspects reportedly fired gunshots through the window after sighting the occupant holding a machete in self-defence.
“Some home appliances, including television, were damaged during the attacks,” Edafe said.
The police spokesman said that the suspect was arrested through a sustained search effort within the neighbourhood.
He said that one locally fabricated double-barreled shotgun was recovered from the suspect during a follow-up investigation.
Edafe said that the suspect was currently in police custody, undergoing further investigation. (NAN)
