There was a serious tension at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday morning when the newly elected executives of the party led by Tanimu Turaki, accompanied by Bauchi State governor and chairman PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed as well as his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde forced their way and took over the party secretariat.
Journalists and other Nigerians within the complex were all in tears as security men released their teargas canisters and inflicted pains on all those within the vicinity.
The officials who tried to prevent the new executives from gaining access were beaten by security agents.
At the time of filing this report, Bala Mohammed, Seyi Makinde, Tanimu Turaki and others were already seated at the conference hall of the party.
In his speech, Turaki thanked the FCT Commissioner of Police for providing them with security against the attempt by the other factions who tried to prevent them to gaining entrance. They said that the inaugural meeting has been shifted to Wednesday.
The PDP boss called on the international community to assist Nigeria in anyway necessary to ensure security in the country.
He said the teargas could not deter them from holding their meeting and taking over the Wadata Plaza.
