365Daily – President Bola Tinubu on Friday announced a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in what the Presidency described as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture.
In the new appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede replaces General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, while Major-General W. Shaibu has been named the new Chief of Army Staff.
Others are Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke, who takes over as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas, the new Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
Announcing the changes in a statement on Friday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, said the appointments take immediate effect.
Dare quoted the President as expressing deep appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa, and the other retired Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership.”
President Tinubu also charged the new military leaders to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship in the discharge of their duties.
