A Magistrate’s Court in Jos, on Monday sentenced a 23-year-old trader, Ishah Mustapha to 14 months in prison for stealing a car battery.
The Magistrate, Irene Pati summarily tried and sentenced the convict, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
Pati in her judgment however gave the convict an option of of N80, 000 fine or spend one year in prison.
She also ordered him to pay a compensation of N70, 000 or spend additional two months in default.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ijuptil Thiawur told the court that the case was reported at the “C”Division Police Station on Sept. 2, by one Moshood Bashir, the complainant.
Thiawur said that the convict and his friend, Haruna Ismail now at large conspired and stole the battery valued at N52, 000 from the complainant’s car before they were caught.
He said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
