A respected business leader and former two-time member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Jelili Kayode Amusan, has commended the people of Ogun State for the peaceful celebration of the 2024 Isese Festival, held on Tuesday, August 20.
In a statement signed by his Media Office, the business magnate praised residents for upholding the values of peace, order, and respect, describing the festival as “a testament to the importance our people attach to culture and tradition.”
He noted that contrary to popular belief, Yoruba traditions remain vibrant and relevant.
“Far too often, many erroneously believe that our traditions are gone. But on Isese Day, our people demonstrated the enduring spirit of Omoluabi—peace, neighbourliness, order, worship, and respect,” he said.
The festival, which was formally institutionalised as a public holiday in Ogun State in 2023 following a resolution by the House of Assembly and the approval of Governor Dapo Abiodun, has become a rallying point for cultural pride. The state government explained that the holiday underscores the recognition of Yoruba heritage as central to the identity and cultural landscape of Ogun State.
Looking ahead, Hon. Amusan urged government and stakeholders to explore the economic potential of Isese Festival by developing it into a cultural spectacle that could attract visitors from within and outside Nigeria.
He stressed that beyond its deep spiritual significance, the festival could serve as a platform to boost tourism, create jobs, and stimulate local economies.
He further encouraged young people to embrace its values, adding that the celebration will continue to grow in influence and visibility as a unique cultural export.
