Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has assured that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State will be restructured and strengthened to accommodate the growing number of defectors joining the party.
He spoke during the campaign tour of Joe Ikpea in Esan West Local Government Area at the weekend ahead of the Senatorial By-election in Edo Central next Saturday.
The Governor visited Ogwa, Ujogba (wards 1 and 2), and Illeh (ward 10), where he formally received a large number of decampees into the APC fold.
Governor Okpebholo stated: “When I promised Mr. President 2.5 million votes, somebody asked me where I was going to get it. But you can see it happening already. Today, the number of people I have received as decampees into APC is more than the number that was there before now.”
He added: “We are going to redefine and reposition our party because the influx of people requires that we solidify and ensure the party is strong enough to carry everybody along. We will hold a meeting of decampees to restrategize.”
The Governor was accompanied on the tour by top APC leaders, including Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.; Edo Central Senatorial leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd); and APC State Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh, among others.
Governor Okpebholo urged the party faithful to remain united and committed, promising that his administration would continue to strengthen APC’s grassroots structures for future electoral victories.
