WAFCON: Tinubu showers Super Falcons with $100,000, national honours, houses

The Super Falcons clinched their record 10th WAFCON title on Saturday, defeating host nation Morocco in a tense final that ended in penalty shootouts.

365Daily – President Bola Tinubu has rewarded Nigeria’s Super Falcons with national honours, monetary gifts, and houses following their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat, Morocco.

At a reception held on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu said the players had not only made the country proud but had become symbols of excellence and resilience.

“For making Nigeria proud and lifting our spirits, each member of the Super Falcons will receive a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Estate,” he announced.

The president also awarded each player $100,000, about ₦153 million and conferred on them the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), one of the country’s highest national honours.

The technical crew were not left out. Tinubu announced a $50,000 (approximately ₦76 million) cash reward for each member of the 11-man coaching and support team in recognition of their behind-the-scenes efforts.

“Behind every great team is a great team of coaches, medics, and analysts. Your work didn’t go unnoticed,” Tinubu said.

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) also joined in celebrating the champions. In a goodwill message delivered at the ceremony, the Forum pledged ₦10 million to each player, further boosting the haul of rewards for the team.
