The Benue State Police Command has revealed that it has successfully rescued three female students of J.S. Tarka University, Makurdi, who were kidnapped on February 26, 2025.
According to a press release by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sewuese Anene for the Commissioner of Police Steven Yabanet yesterday in Makurdi, said the students were abducted within the school premises by unknown persons.
CP Yabanet in the statement said upon receiving the report, a team of police officers were swiftly deployed to investigate the incident.
He further disclosed that during investigation, it was discovered that the three female students were being held hostage by their kidnappers.
The Benue CP explained that following a continuous trail of the kidnappers, the police were able to secure the release of the victims on March 3, 2025, at around 9:34 pm.
He said the rescued students are currently receiving medical attention at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.

It could be recalled that this development comes after a series of kidnappings in the state, including the abduction of over 20 medical students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, who were later rescued.
