The National Union of Pensioners, Benue State chapter has commended and appreciated the good gestures of the Governor Hyacinth Alia-led administration for providing quality health care for the masses.
The commendation is coming following pronouncement by the chief medical director, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Stephen Hwande to provide free accessible healthcare services to pensioners in the state.
The NUP chapter led by its chairman, Comrade Michael Vembeh paid a courtesy call on the CMD to show their satisfaction and excitement over the measures of the present administration in the state to improve the standard of living of its retirees.
The pensioners appealed that the governor directs other general hospitals and primary healthcare centres in the three political zones in the state to adopt same methods in caring for the old and vulnerable who are susceptible to diseases as pensioners belong to this category.
In his response, Dr. Stephen Hwande emphasised the need to care for the old in the society and that it became necessary to provide free patients cards, free bed space and free consultations for the pensioners pointing that efforts are on top gear to also subsidise drugs and laboratory tests for certified pensioners in the state stating that they deserve such as they have successfully served the state in their productive years.
Dr. Hwande who thanked the Benue State governor for addressing the problems being faced by the masses and upholding his campaign promises on the payment of pensioners benefits also expresses his administration’s resolve to among other things, provide good infrastructure and social amenities to people of the state.
The BSUTH boss disclosed that the cancer project in the hospital is underway and largely supported by the governor with the sum of two billion naira and that a system is being developed through the Governor Alia’s intervention to produce I.V fluids, reagents, syringes, consumables among others for use by the health institution.
