Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring safety of lives and property of citizens with the launch of Benue State Civil Protection Guards, BSCPG, and a special joint taskforce operation ‘Anyam Nyor'”‘ security outfits established by law to combat criminality.
The state government, during the occasion, also distributed 600 new operational motorcycles and 100 Hilux Toyota vans to security agencies operating in the state.
Performing the ceremony, Saturday, at IBB Square, Makurdi, Father. Hyacinth Alia, described the event as a significant milestone and said the civil protection guard which has a total number of 5,000 personnel have the capacity to complement efforts of conversational security agencies in the state, stressing that development could not thrive in an atmosphere of crisis.
Governor Alia described BSCPG as a crucial step towards achieving this goal, noting that the outfit will work to create an environment where people could live, farm, work, and thrive without fear.
The governor expressed appreciation to the support of President Bola Tinubu, his fellow governors, and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for assisting the state’s efforts to enhance security, and equally thanked the state security team, traditional leaders, and religious leaders for their contributions to the initiative.
Governor Alia maintained that the joint security taskforce code named operation Anyam Nyor comprising of all security formations in the state will deploy personnel across the 23 local government areas of the state to ensure that lives and property of citizens are protected, and called on youths to take advantage of the opportunity provided by government through the amnesty programme to embrace peace and surrender arms in their possession before deployment of personnel to affected communities.

In a remark, IGP represented by AIGP operations, Ali Mohammed, called on the people to embrace community policing to combat criminality in the state.
Also speaking Chairman of Northern Governors Forum and governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, said launching of the security outfit was a preparation to the take off of the state police and promised to support Governor Alia and the federal government to end insecurity in the country.
On his part, the Tor Tiv, HRM Prof James Ayatse, pledged support of the traditional institution. He advised the guards to be professional in their duties warning politicians to resist the attempt of converting the guards and vehicles into political purposes.
