The Federal Government has paid tribute to the late Wantaregh Paul Iorpuu Unongo, a second republic minister of Steel Development and former national chairman of the Northern Elders’ Forum, NEF.
Vice President Kashim Shettima who led the federal government delegation while delivering a farewell massage to Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Benue people at the Government House in Makurdi, during a valedictory session, described Unongo as a model of dignity, humility and purpose, who left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s history.
He praised Unongo’s selflessness, unity, and commitment to justice and truth, saying he was a true statesman who put the needs of his people and nation above his own.

He encouraged Nigerians to draw inspiration from Unongo’s values and strive to bridge divides, serve with integrity and lead with purpose.
Unongo passed away at the age of 87 in Jos, Plateau State would be buried at Unongo Village in Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State.
