Reps confirms Oluyede as Chief of Army Staff

Oluyede on Wednesday appeared before the House Joint Ad-hoc Committee on Defence and Army for screening and confirmation.

365Daily – The House of Representatives has confirmed the appointment of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.

Oluyede on Wednesday appeared before the House Joint Ad-hoc Committee on Defence and Army for screening and confirmation.

His confirmation was done during plenary on Thursday, November 29, 2024, after the lawmakers considered the report of the House Ad-hoc Committee on Confirmation and Screening for the Acting Chief of Army Staff which was laid by its chairman, Hon. Babajimi Benson.

Hon. Benson informed the House that Lt.-Gen. Oluyede has successfully undergone the screening process of the panel and urged his colleagues him to confirm him as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,

He said, “The Ad-hoc Committee carefully and thoroughly engaged with the nominee for the position of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede and was satisfied with his academic and professional qualifications, exposure, conduct, character, experience and general performance.

“The ad-hoc committee also observed that the nominee displayed wide and indepth knowledge on strategies, tactics and military operations as exhibited during his acting capacity.

“Consequently, the Ad-hoc committee do hereby recommend that Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede be confirmed as the Chief of Army Staff of Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having successfully undergone screening process of the Ad-hoc committee.”

Following the approval of the recommendation when put to voice vote by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chaired the Committee of the Whole, the report of the Committee of the Whole was adopted.
