The vice chancellor, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi, JOSTUM, Professor Isaac Itodo, has assured members of the public especially the university community that his administration would continue to sustain the culture of inaugural lectures for academicians to showcase their research contributions to the development of the country.
Speaking at the 62nd inaugural lecture titled Exegesis of Phyto Yaria: The GrundNorm of Phyto-improvement for Food Security and Environmental Sustainability, delivered by Professor Celestine Aguoru, of department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, held Wednesday at the Aper Aku Auditorium in Makurdi, Professor Itodo promised to keep the tempo throughout his administration.
He described Professor Agouru as an academician of many parts and assured the university community that his administration would continue to prioritize as well as sustain promotion of professors and the culture of inaugural lecture.
Professor Itodo, commended union activist of the Nigerian universities both academic and non academics, ASUU for the roles they have played in reshaping Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
While congratulating the guest lecturer for his academic milestone, Professor Itodo expressed appreciation to the university community for keeping faith with the inaugural lecture unit, promising to sustain the series as well as timely promotion of deserving academics to the rank of professors.
In a welcome remark, chairman planning committee of the lecture, Professor Idoga, affirmed that since assumption of office, the vice chancellor has consistently sustained the tempo of the inaugural lecture despite the economic hardship.
According to him, the aim is for the academicians to showcase what they have been doing, adding that in the same vain the university community and guests were gathered for the same purpose to witness what the guest lecturer has done to be recognized as a professor.
