Leadership correspondent, Hembadoon Orsar, has emerged chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Benue State Chapter.
Announcing the results after the election during the SWAN Triennial Delegates Conference held Saturday at NUJ House Makurdi, Secretary of the credentials and electoral committee, Uche Nnorom, said Orsar polled 31 votes to defeat her only opponent, Tamenor Kwaghzer, of News Echo who scored 20 votes.
He further announced those who won other positions to include; Mathias Udende- Vice Chairman, Terfa Alaaga-Secretary, Regina Girgi-Treasurer, and Patrick Omora- Financial Secretary, respectively.
In an acceptance speech on behalf of other exco members, the newly elected Chairman, Hembadoon Orsar, expressed appreciation to members of the association for trusting her and her team with their mandate to render service for the next three years, promising to collaborate all stakeholders and government at all levels to develop the Association to improve the welfare of members as well as build their capacity.
In a remark, National President, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Isaiah Benjamin, represented by Secretary General of SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo, advised the incoming exco to hit the ground running in order to touch the lives of members of the Association.
Chairman, SWAN, electoral committee, Terkula Atom, thanked members for their peaceful conduct during the election and advised members to be responsible in their reportage to earn respect in the eyes of the public while the caretaker committee chairman of NUJ Benue State chapter, Vincent Nyinongo, urged leadership of the new exco to initiate programmes that would improve welfare of members, assuring them of NUJ support for the Association to develop.
