Gwandu Emirate Council, has said that it is expecting no fewer than two thousand tourist, spectators and investors as it braces for a monumental cultural festival dominant in Gwandu Emirate in Kebbi State.
Chairman of the main committee who doubles as Sarkin Bargun Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman, in a press conference at the palace said that the intent of the event is to unite the people of the emirate through culture and to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Gwandu Emirate which will in turn draw tourist and investors to the emirate from Western African nations and beyond.
Speaking further, he said the emirate has lined up a week-long cultural festivities to include agricultural show, horse racing competition horse durba and huttingo; a famous Fulani cultural display.
According to him, horse racing which will dominate the cultural festival will draw competitors from Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and Dubai from the United Arab Emirate, UAE, and those countries will compete to win at least seven trophies including the prestigious Sheik Abdullahi Fodio Cup which is the climax of the cultural festival.
The cultural festival will kick off on November 18, 2024, and will run for one week along side other events like huttingo, durbar while the final of horse racing will hold on Saturday as the grand final where at least 250 horses from West African countries will slug it out to get a winner who will take home prizes including the Sheikh Abdullahi Fodio Cup.
Usman explained that, aside the intent of the cultural festival which seeks to woo investors and unite sons and daughters of Gwandu emirate “We have decided to organise it to appreciate Governor Idris for what he is doing to the state in many sectors and to as well thank the emir of Gwandu, Muhammadu Illiyasu Bashar for finding us worthy of the job, he said.
