The governor commended the wives of his commissioners and their husbands for organizing a thanksgiving in his honour and equally expressed appreciation to the people of Benue State
Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia has implored all sons and daughters of the state to be interested in what his administration is doing by being active key players as government is about the people.
Governor Alia who spoke at a thanksgiving service to mark the end of activities for his 34th years of priestly ordination anniversary put together by wives of serving commissioners, acknowledged the contributions made by all sons and daughters of the state which has made possible the success story of his administration, describing them as partakers of the milestones his government has recorded and said such collaboration has made easy Government business.
He announced that apart from the massive road constructions across the state, payment of salaries, pensions, renovation of state secretariat, Divisional General hospitals, recruitment of 9,700 teachers, a lot is still happening in other sectors and invited the people of the state to take interest as all government efforts are geared towards benefit of the masses.
The governor who was excited with the people over their response in payment of taxes, said henceforth, each project of government must be attached to the tax that is collected by government, assuring tax payers that his administration would remain committed towards calibrating the tax administration in the state for people to know exactly where their money collected in the name of tax is going to.
He said this will enable the people to know that they are also contributing to good governance as this would make them own up the business of government as a business of the people.
The governor commended the wives of his commissioners and their husbands for organizing a thanksgiving in his honour and equally expressed appreciation to the people of Benue State for their show of solidarity to him and his administration.
He also thanked his brother priest, particularly his classmates at the Major Seminary Jos for always standing by him over the years and for their sustained support as well as prayers for the success of his administration and called for sustenance, emphasizing that it is only through prayers that God will continue to give him the grace to provide good governance to Benue masses.
The governor during the thanksgiving mass also announced that his administration would soon commence a comprehensive renovation of the chapel to give it a befitting status and thanked wives of his commissioners for the honor done him.
In a sermon Reverend Father Tagesa Akpaegher, called on the church to join politics in order to change the narrative of bad governance to provide good governance.
He lamented that the church in the past have spoken to the political class without commensurate results for too long, stressing that it was time for action and commended Governor Alia for taking a bold step in joining politics and for changing the political situation in the state.
The cleric challenged Christians to always live a life of action rather than just listening, stating that Benue people needs to at all times be in praises to God for giving them a Governor who understood the yearnings and aspirations of the common masses and is working towards providing such needs.
