365Daily – An Abuja Court of Appeal has set aside the orders by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, barring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s former National Chairman, Uche Secondus; former Rivers Governor, Celestine Omehia and a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Austin Opara, from attending any meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) or participating in deliberations or proceedings of the meetings in any manner.
In three separate judgements on Friday, August 16, 2024, the three-member panel of the Court of Appeal held unanimously that the appeals filed by the three party chieftains had merit.
It added the Federal High Court lacked jurisdiction over issues relating to whether or not members of a political party attend the party’s meetings because they fall under internal affairs of the party, which are not justiciable.
Going further, the court declared the proceedings conducted in the three cases before the Federal High Court null and void, including the restraining orders made ex-parte by Justice Ekwo on April 5.
