The leadership crisis plaguing the Labour Party has taken another dimension as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday, July 29, refused to allow Julius Abure and his secretary Umar Farouk participate in a quarterly stakeholders meeting organized by the commission for all national chairmen of the various political parties.
Julius Abure and his secretary Umar Farouk, pleaded to be a part of the meeting but were sent out, as they were told they were not sent invites for the meeting because Labour Party has no LEGAL National Working Committee until a Convention is done, because his tenure has elapsed. Other attendees and party chairmen were irritated as to why he would attend the meeting, when he was not invited.
After several pleas for him to leave which proved abortive, the Commission was left with no other choice than to use the security men to throw him out of the meeting and out of the building.
The Commission told the media that Julius Abure was walked out of the meeting because he is no longer a national chairman and LP was not sent an invite because it has no recognized National Working Committee.
In the meeting, the INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu recognized the hitherto embattled national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Edozie Njoku, who has made his back after the judiciary declared him authentic national chairman of the party, rejecting Sly Ezeokenwa.
