Benue State governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has charged governing council chairmen and members of state owned tertiary institutions to make robust contact by cross fertilizing ideas with other institutions in order to reposition the institutions for them to meet global standards.
Alia who gave the charge last Friday while performing the inauguration ceremony of the new appointees in the seven state-owned institutions also emphasized the need for corporate governance which he described as a critical tool needed for the administration of institutions to guarantee efficient and quality education expected to be offered in the institutions.
He disclosed that those who merited the list were carefully chosen because of their credentials as well as experiences in previous assignments, and urged them to provide the institutions with new insight and ways that would enhance quality education and generate resources to uplift academic standard of the institutions.
The governor maintained that this could be done through robust contact with other educational institutions, organisations as well as facilitating collaboration and partnership with both local and international institutions, insisting that such linkages would certainly have a positive impact on the institutions and charged the chairmen and members to bring their wealth of experience to bear on the growth of the institutions.
Responding on behalf of others, Chairman/ Pro Chancellor Benue State University, BSU Makurdi, Paul Chukwuma, expressed appreciation to Governor Alia for finding them worthy to serve the state in those capacities, affirming that they were not only grateful but also mindful of the expectations placed on their shoulders and promised not to disappoint the people.
