The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has assured the nation that the National Assembly would support efforts to see to the completion of the Hydro-Power Project situated in Taraba State.
Akpabio gave the assurance on Tuesday when a delegation of the Chinese Contractor firm in charge of the project, China Gezhouba Group Company Ltd(CGGC) paid him a courtesy call to update the Senate on the progress made in the project.
The delegation was led to the Office of the Senate President by the Minister of State for Steel Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu.
Akpabio told his guests that the project had been on the drawing board for a very long time adding that Nigerians would be happy to see it completed.
The Senate President assured the contractors that “whatever constraints are there and you require the support of the National Assembly, particularly the Senate, we will give to you.
“There is no doubt that adding over 3,000 megawatts from the Mambilla Hydro Project to our current energy production will change the fortune of the country.
“We note with gladness, your determination to partner with this administration to bring the Mambilla Hydro Project into reality, ours is just to assure you of the support that you need.
“For the Mambilla Hydro Project, be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration is committed to the industrialisation of Nigeria.
“On the part of the National Assembly, we will continue to make laws that will allow for ease of doing business and also encourage Foreign Direct Investment and also encourage you to stay in Nigeria.
“Whatever the Executive demands from the National Assembly to do to support you by a way of legislation or by a way of appropriation, I assure you, even if you did not come, we would still have done our best. But with your presence here now, we will double our efforts to support you to ensure that you succeed.”
The CGGC General Manager of Africa Marketing Department, Huang Lin, who led the delegation said it was because of the Mambilla Hydro Project that the firm came to Nigeria in 2007.
He said the project was designed to generate 3050 megawatts of Hydro Power and sought for the support of the National Assembly towards the completion of the project.
