The unions and the FG will meet daily for one week until they reach an agreement on the new minimum wage.

365Daily – The executives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress will meet today to deliberate on whether to take up the Federal Government (FG)’s offer on minimum wage or continue with its strike which entered day two on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
Union leaders on Monday night met with representatives of the FG on the strike where the government assured that it will pay more than the N60, 000 it initially proposed. The NLC posted after the meeting that “until we hear from our organs at our meeting scheduled for today 4th June, we are still on strike.”
Speaking on behalf of the FG, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, urged the unions to return to the negotiation table, assuring that the Bola Tinubu government is committed to paying beyond the N60, 000 and will not victimise any worker over the strike action.
He also added that the unions and the FG will meet daily for one week until they reach an agreement on the new minimum wage.
The Monday strike by the NLC and its affiliate unions paralysed public institutions, schools, banks, hospitals and disrupted commercial activities across the country.
They are demanding for N496, 000 minimum wage in line with current economic realities in the country, while the FG’s last offer was N60, 000.
Their meeting is scheduled to hold Tuesday morning.
