A civil society organisation, in Kebbi state, Youths Network for Peace and Democracy, has expressed dismay over the reactions of some Nigerians faulting the statement made by the minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu on President Bola Tinubu’s economic gains so far.
The state Chairman of the group,Alhaji Aliyu Usman Kaoje, in a statement in Birnin Kebbi, said that Bagudu was right in his statement that, Tinubu-led administration’s economic team is yielding fruits because no doubt the removal of subsidy on petrol is painful but has saved the country quantum some of money for infrastructural development which has grown the external reserves.
“The economic blueprint under Tinubu led government has attracted huge investment in both oli and gas because the policies have restored investors confidence internationally and within the shores of Nigeria”, it said.
The group further revealed that every economic recovery requires patience and time to manifest therefore the time is not far for more gains.
“We were surprised to read knocks from Nigerians verbally attacking the minister over his statement. We wish to reiterate that we back him on his statement of economic gains because as budget minister, he is in a position to know the level of gains and economic growth of our dear country. It was not a statement made out of ignorance”
Kaoje also expressed shock over calls by some Nigerians that the minister should apologize to Nigerians.
“The minister is aware of the hardship being faced by Nigerians over the ongoing reform, but that doesn’t mean to deny the president his gains in less than one year. We hereby appeal to aggrieved Nigerians to allow the minister time to concentrate on his job of economic planning which will soon bear more fruits for Nigeria”, the statement added.
