Benue state Governor Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia,has condemned the recent armed herders attack on Mbakyor community, Mbalom of Gwer East Local Government Area of the State where not less than 15 innocent persons died with several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Alia who made the condemnation yesterday during a mass burial of the victims held at Mbakyor Mbalom in Gwer-East LGA, expressed sadness over the untimely death and described attack as barbaric.
Governor Alia represented by his deputy Sam Ode promised that it was the last time for such ugly incident to occur in any Benue community including Mbakyor, assuring that his administration is working round the clock through security agencies to put a stop to herders attack on Benue Communities.
In a remark,chairman, Association of Mbakyor sons and daughters, Simon Kofi, commended governor Alia for approving establishment of a security post in the area and appealed for the creation of Mbakyor council ward, construction of access road linking the community and deployment of qualified healthcare personnel to the existing primary health care in their community for proper healthcare service delivery.
On his part, President General, Masev Development Association Professor Vitalis Tarhule, lamented that the community was witnessing for the third time armed herdsmen attack in 10 years with over 40 people being killed, and called on the government to give the community the desired protection which according to him was the main aim the people voted Father Alia’s administration into office.
Also speaking Elias Audu, representing Gwer East in the State Assembly, expressed worry why the emergency aircraft displayed by the Nigeria Air force recently, inaugurated by the vice president for prompt intervention in cases of attack on communities is not being put to use.
