365Daily– The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a two-day nationwide mass protest for February 27 and 28, 2024 to protest rising hardship on Nigerians.
NLC president, Comrade Joe Ajaero, stated this during a press briefing at Labour House in Abuja, on Friday, February 16, 2024.
According to him, the decision followed an emergency National Executive Council meeting of the NLC on the state of the economy and matters related to insecurity in the country.
Ajaero said the protest would begin a week after the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government which will expire on February 23.
Its demands to the government range from wage increments to improved access to public utilities and fulfilment of pledges to soften the impact of reforms.
The labour leadership lamented that millions of Nigerian workers are facing hunger, erosion of purchasing power and insecurity due to reforms that drove up inflation following President Bola Tinubu’s decision to scrap fuel subsidy on May 29, 2023, and other economic decisions.
