365Daily – The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, is dead.
The Ondo Governor died at about 2 a.m. on Wednesday at a German hospital where he was receiving treatment, according to reports.
He died after losing a prolonged battle with leukemia and prostate cancer.
In June, Akeredolu left for a hospital abroad where he spent four months and returned to Nigeria in September.
Upon his return, he stayed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. This generated a backlash and a call to transfer power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, while he takes time to recuperate from his illness.
On Wednesday, December 13, he proceeded on another medical leave but this time, transferred power to his deputy, to assume the responsibilities of the governor in full acting capacity.
Akeredolu was a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
