356Daily – In a bid to cushion the economic hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal, President Bola Tinubu has approved a fifty per cent slash in the cost of public transportation across Nigeria for the yuletide season.
This is just as he ordered that all trains rides across Nigeria should be free from Thursday, December 21, 2023 to 4 January, 2024.
The directive was announced by the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, in a joint press briefing with the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris and that of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, at the State House on Wednesday.
Also present was the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Alake disclosed that a committee whicb he heads had held meetings with all relevant transportation bodies across Nigeria and reached an agreement that the government will bear 50 per cent cost of transportation based on the prices at the time of the meeting.
On air transport, he said the discount does not apply because it is for the benefit of “the masses.”
