365Daily – Anambra state has witnessed escalation of violent crimes on the streets of its major cities, especially Awka, the capital city and Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of the state, as hoodlums unleash mayhem on multiple targets in the past weeks.
A viral videos on social media indicated that touts in Onitsha have been having a field day bullying some residents and attacking commercial bus drivers.
In one of the videos, a corpse of a driver who was allegedly killed by hoodlums was displayed.
In another, a critically injured driver was narrating his ordeals in the hands of the criminal touts who left him with multiple stone inflicted injuries.
Yet in another, girls that go out braless were said to be serially molested and forced to pay an illegal fine of N5,000 each in order to buy their freedom from these rogue individuals at the popular Upper Iweka Motor Park in Onitsha.
Also, few days ago, in front of Eke Awka Market in Awka, a man was killed and beheaded in broad daylight and his head taken away by the assailants, thereby creating an atmosphere of fear and terror in the capital city that has witnessed many of suck mindless killings in recent times.
Terrified by these developments, the Onitsha – Nnewi shuttle bus drivers have called on Governor Charles Soludo to come to their rescue by banning the activities of touts in the state, as they protested the alleged murder of their member.
Although the governor had on assumption of office, declared a total ban on those notorious motor park touts, but recent developments have shown that no concrete action has been taken to check the activities of those criminals.
