365Daily – Following the controversy trailing the disclosure by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) that an Anambra school girl faked her result to emerge the highest scorer in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the State Government has instituted a panel of inquiry into the matter.
Miss Ejikeme Joy Nmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Uruagu, Nnewi, had been paraded on social media as the highest scorer in the UTME with 362 aggregate.
But in a statement issued on Sunday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) denounced the result, saying she manually inflated it from 249 to 362 to attract a N3million scholarship from the state.
Reacting to the disclosure, the Anambra State Education Commissioner, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, described it as very embarrassing, especially as it was coming at a time when the Soludo-led administration is working to get education right in the State.
She said: “Security agents are investigating the allegation of falsification of result levelled against Ejikeme Mmesoma, who had earlier been showcased in the social media as having scored the highest.”
However, Nkechinyere Umeh, who was declared the highest by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, at the 2023 Policy Meeting for Tertiary Institutions in Abuja, having scored a cumulative mark of 360, has received accolades from the state.
