*Says post-flood rehabilitation as important as managing the floods itself

365Daily – Chairman of the Flood Management Committee for Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Ben Nwasike, has commended Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ogbaru Federal Constituency between 2011 and 2015, for facilitating post-flood sensitisation for victims of flood in the area.
Ogene’s team of medical practitioners and caregivers are currently on tour of various IDP locations and camps, delivering health tips, body massage and distributing balms.
The Ogbaru Flood Management Committee Chairman advocated for increased sensitisation to enable victims readjust to their normal way of living without much difficulties.
According to Nwasike, “as our people get set to return home and begin life anew, there is the dire need to sensitise them against the ill-effects of cold, water-borne diseases and dangerous reptiles displaced from their natural habitation and currently taking refugee in homes abandoned during the peak of flooding.”
Speaking against the backdrop of the current sensitisation campaign being undertaken in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, Nwasike praised Hon. Ogene, who is the Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for the same constituency in the 2023 elections, for his foresight in thinking about post-flood rehabilitation.
Led by Chinelo Isagba, a massage therapist, Ogene’s team has visited and carried out massage sessions for hundreds of persons in the IDP camps at Afia Idemmili, Otumonye, Okpoko and Odekpe Town Hall.
From Monday, October 24, through the week, they are billed to visit displaced persons at Akili Ozizor, Atani, Umunankwo and Ossomala.
