Candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 House of Representatives election in Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, has stated that people of his area have no reason to withhold support from the Presidential Candidate of his party, Mr. Peter Obi.
Hon. Ogene spoke yesterday, Saturday, October 22, 2022 when the Labour Party flag bearer visited flood-ravaged Ogbaru Local Government Area.
After an aerial assessment of Ogbaru, where a major bridge and some sections of the Atani-Ossomala-Ogwuikpele road were washed off, Obi stopped at the local government headquarters, Atani where he interacted with some Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) and stakeholders.
Speaking on the significance of the visit, Hon. Ogene contended that “given the undisguised love shown to our people over the years, there’s no reason for any true Ogbaru person not to support Mr. Peter Obi and his OBIdient Movement.
“Lest we forget, it was under the Peter Obi administration that we, as ndi Ogbahu, had our best years, politically. Besides the provision of basic infrastructure, it was during Governor Obi’s time that Ogbaru had a ‘super’ commissioner, a secretary to the state government(SSG), speaker of the state assembly, as well as the member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, and the two state assembly seats – all, as members of his party.”
Hon. Ogene, who was represented by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Chinedu Uwolloh, urged the people not to also forget the strident effort of former Governor Obi to have an illustrious son of Ogbaru elected as governor of Anambra.
Hon. Ogene: “There is no gainsaying that under a Peter Obi presidency, Ogbaru would have it’s best days in the sun yet. Consequently, we as a people must rally support by being part of the burgeoning OBIdient Movement.”
Earlier, the Labour Party presidential candidate had, besides commiserating with the people made an undisclosed cash donation, and promised to rally further support for the people from national and international agencies. Obi restated that the visit was “purely humanitarian and non-political.”
Following in the same stride, the Deputy Director General/Campaign Manager of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Oseloka Obaze, made a cash donation of two million naira. Oseloka, an indigene of Ogbaru, urged the people to brace up for the challenges of life after the floods.
Hon. Nwoye also donated some relief materials, including rice, bags of garri, indomie, generator, mosquito nets, blankets and loaves of bread.
Present at the event were the Traditional Ruler of Akili Ogidi, Igwe Ike Nwafili, Dr. Tony Nwoye, Anambra North Senatorial Candidate of Labour Party, Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru, Hon. Paschal Aniegbuna, chairman of the Ogbaru Flood Committee, Hon. Ben Nwasike(Uti), President-General of Ochuche Umuodu, Dr. Obiozor Ajie, Chief Daniel Nwabueze(Asi), chairman of Labour Party in Ogbaru, Prince Emeka Nwosu, as well as the State Assembly candidates of the party, Honourables Bewin Ezenwammadu and Henry Nonso Nwaebili.
