365Daily – The arrest of a former member of the House of Representatives (Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo), Hon. Linus Okorie, is currently brewing tension in the state between Onicha people and their neigbouring community in Uburu.
Information reaching 365Daily indicates that Onicha people where Okorie hails from have barricaded the road leading to Uburu, the hometown of Governor David Umahi. They are insisting that he must release their brother who was arrested by the local security outfit of the state, Ebubeagu, on Sunday under controversial circumstances.
Both David Umahi and Linus Okorie are vying for Ebonyi South senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) respectively.
The Ebonyi State Police Command has justified the arrest of Okorie, linking it to a drug-related offence.
A WhatsApp notice shared in Uburu stated: “Information reaching Uburu Development Initiative confirmed that Uburu road had been blocked by Onicha people hence making it difficult for travelers passing through Uburu or coming to Uburu not to access the route. Travelers to Oshiri – Onueke – Abakaliki from Uburu should take note.”
An eye-witnessed who spoke with 365Daily via telephone, expressed worry that the tension may result in bloodshed as the Onicha people are threatening to deal with anyone from Uburu found within their community.
