365Daily – The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has been impeached by the State House of Assembly over alleged gross misconduct.
The ex-Deputy Governor’s woes began after he defected from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was also accused of abuse of office, financial recklessness, among others.
Chairman of the Housing Corporation and former Attorney-General of the State, Adebayo Lawal, was subsequently approved for his replacement after the Monday impeachment.
The House had adopted the report of a seven-man panel constituted by the state Chief Judge, Justice Munta Abimbola on Thursday, July 14, 2022.constituted to investigate the allegations levelled against the Deputy Governor by the lLawmakers.
The panel was said to have began its sitting immediately and worked all through the weekend.
At the impeachment sitting, the House Majority Leader, Mr Sanjo Adedoyin, read the panel’s reports and recommendations at plenary, after which they pronounced Olaniyan impeached with immediate effect.
His replacement, Lawal, was nominated by the Governor of the State, Seyi Makinde, to the lawmakers for consideration and approval in a letter read at plenary.
