365Daily – Some unidentified persons have attacked some Southeasterners resident in Lagos, who were attempting to register for their Voter’s Card in Ojo, Lagos State.
A viral video recorded at the scene showed that some of the attacked persons are traders who had taken time off business to ensure that they do their registration. (See video attached)
In reaction, a former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Geff Ojinika, has condemned the attack and harassment of innocent Nigerians who went to register for their PVC, saying it was laced with tribal sentiments.
He lamented that the attack was majorly vested on Igbo business group who closed down their shops at Alaba international market to obtain their permanent voters card in order to participate in civil responsibility (election).
Hon. Ojinika, who was speaking on Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Abuja, said while addressing journalists: “The incessant attack on our Igbo brothers who only went to register their permanent voters card is condemnable, we must not allow tribalism to eat up our thinking and destroy our national cohesion. The people behind such action is demonic and they should have a rethink.
“INEC chairman must immediately redeploy the REC and the entire INEC officials who aided this evil action. He must not allow the people to lose confidence and trust on INEC. INEC is a national institution and not a tribal or sectional body who only registers people from certain part of the country.”
He called for love and unity among everyone, irrespective of states of origin.
“We are living in a multi language country but that should never put us into hating or intimidating one another,” the former lawmaker who represented Orsu, Orlu and Oru East in the House of Representatives advocated.
In addition, he called for good governance and better living of all Nigerians.
