The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya had restated commitment to tackling infrastructural challenges in Nigerian Army (NA) barracks.
This he said was to ensure adequate and comfortable accommodation for personnel of the Nigerian army.
Yahaya stated this while commissioning some projects in Lagos State on Thursday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commissioned projects include the NA Finance Corps Soldiers’ Transit Accommodation, NA Ordinance School Students’ Hostel and Ablution Block and 70 Command Supply and Transport Transit Officers’ Accommodation.
Others are the newly built official residences of the Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) of 81 Division, NA Engineers Corps and Signals, as well as the Commander and Deputy Commander, Command Finance Office House, Apapa.
The COAS said the commissioning of the projects was further evidence of the resolve of the NA toward improving the well-being of NA personnel.
“The members of staff of the NA shall continue in its stride of intervention projects in the area of barracks renovation and construction, procurement of new platforms and rehabilitation of hospital for effective medical care,” he said.
Yahaya said he would continue to upgrade weapon system and equip training curriculum in order to effectively deliver on the need to have a professional NA ready to discharge its constitutional roles.
“Therefore, I charge personnel to strive continuously to meet and even exceed the expectations of the nation by protecting the citizenry and critical assets within their respective mandates.
“We must endeavour to bring succor to those in despair as we discharge our constitutional responsibilities to the nation,” he said.
The COAS urged officers and men to justify the resources being expended daily to improve both their working and living conditions by remaining committed to their professional calling.
“We must do our best to justify this enormous defence expenditure in the face of dwindling economy.
“We have a responsibility to ensure adequate and sustained maintenance of the infrastructure in all our Barracks,” he said.
Yahaya expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari, for his immense support to the NA which had improved the welfare of personnel. (NAN)
